About Alan
Alan Sturm
I've been a Big Band fan for years. My father, Dean Sturm, played trombone in several big bands as a pick-up when the bands passed through the tri-state. The stereo was always playing big band music, too So, I learned to love it. Dad was also the original host of The Saturday Night Jamboree on WSAZ-TV in the 1950's and 60's. My broadcasting career began in 1966 and the program "Big Bands and More" first aired on WGNT-AM in 1974 just after Duke Ellington died. Originally called "When Music Was", BB&M has been on-the-air most every weekend since then. The picture you see with this profile was taken in the early 80's at WHEZ-FM when it was on Skyview Drive in Huntington.
